Halal, the billion dollar industry?

All sorts of articles, podcasts and videos pop up in Cert ID Europe's inbox, but one particularly interesting and very insightful article we found today was from the Guardian, discussing Halal not just as religious observance, but as a global brand. Cert ID may have discussed this previously, but Halal within the news has cropped up more and more recently, therefore showing the increase in demand for Halal products in the market.

As the article suggests, Halal is not just limited to meat and certain butchers shops. The Halal market has branched into the likes of Halal toothpaste, beer, cosmetics and even bacon (not entirely sure what is in the latter...). With the rise in consumer products in the Halal market comes the rise in business opportunities for many food and drink manufacturers, who arguably can't afford to ignore the Halal arena. There is a growing Muslim presence in the West, and as the Guardian article suggests, there is also a rise in the middle class in Muslim countries which estimates a £billion market in Halal goods and products.

So there you have it. Halal. A great business opportunity, and quite frankly a demand and a market which will just keep on rising. Talk to Cert ID if you want to know more.

Can I have that with a side of GM please?

A recent article in The Guardian discusses a growth in positive consumer attitudes towards GM foods, but does it really show that we ask?

The GM article looks at how the UK opinion of the use of GM foods is becoming more widespread and controversial. A flexibility of opinion may have risen around the UK over the use of GM foods, but would UK consumers actually buy the products?

As a Non-GMO Certification Body we have found that consumer attitudes towards GM foods still reveal thoughts of concern. Consumers are perhaps becoming more inclined for the use of GM foods to be used in certain circumstances, but this does not necessarily mean they are more included to buy GM foods and use them for themselves.

Cert ID Europe would love to hear your thoughts on the matter! As the global leaders in Non-GMO Certification, it is important to us to know what consumers feel when it comes to GM foods (and we're also just really nosy as well!)

Check out the article, it has some great insights:

GM-No?

As the Global Leaders in Non-GMO Certification, Cert ID Europe love finding new articles revealing consumer attitudes and feedback into the input of GMO's into food.

This recent article from The Guardian:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/mar/11/gm-foods-spin
Shows the misleading figures that some scientists make public about the consumer attitudes towards GM foods.

The article actually reveals that consumer attitudes favouring GM foods has halved over the past decade, which is great news for Cert ID as it shows that more and more consumers are wanting to know if their food contains any presence of GMO!
